Just stumbled over this bug in lyx. I pressed "d" (view dvi)
and after a short time got this message, aber which lyx aborted:

In lyx 1.1.2 (Debian Linux) epsilon is diplayed as varepsilon, varepsilon is
written as LaTeX command. The math panel displays them correctly.
