I did update my Dell 8200 to Ubuntu 14.04 with no problems at all.Update

What is the b43 issue?
Is it related to USB wireless adapter problem? I just bought Netgear WNA3100M
and have not been able to get it to work. After googling I had several

Hi, sometimes Dell needs b43 drivers that is all... nothing big.
Does your computer have b43?
I didn't mean to misdirect you if I did. Some Dell computers need the
b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer packages.
It is only an 'issue' because I have to plug in to the Ethernet when
setting up a laptop
I installed b43-fwcutter yesterday.
I installed firmware-b43-installer just now.
Output of lsusb is attached.
Output of usb-devices is attached.
When I uplug Ethernet cable, I get internet disconnected message.
When I look at Interfaces, I see

The fact that it notifies you that wireless networks are available
indicates the hardware is now working.
I have never used any automated configuration, or the button on the
wireless dongle to configure. I don't know how to make it work that way.
But I have always (once it gets to

Interesting info, but I don't have a Belkin router, just a Belkin wireless
adapter.
For the AT&T U-verse router, its address is 192.168.1.254,
its router control panel is 192.168.1.254,
and its DHCP assigns addresses in the range 192.168.1.x.

If know how to build from source then PPAs work on PowerPC.

My Belkin N300 wireless adapter also works now.
I just unplugged the Netgear and plugged in the Belkin.
Apparently I already installed the Broadcom driver that it needs.

Has anyone ever tried upgrading right to 15.04 by just editing
/etc/apt/sources.list and replacing where it says trusty with vivid, then
doing sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade?
Does it work? If it doesn't work, why?

Fritz,
I would strongly encourage you getting down to the command line. It will
help you so much with Linux on PPC. I think once you get started you will
see that tasks like applying patches, building .deb files, even compiling a
kernel are not as daunting as they may sound. You will definitely fe
Hi Hermino,
To be honest, compiling a kernel on 450 MHZ machine is kind of daunting
:) I built a kernel package on an old Compaq that took over a day to
complete, that was 900MHZ with a 256MB RAM.
But building a deb for a kernel on Debian is incredibly easy, but does
require a very long compile p
When I build a .deb package from a ppa I just download the source, enter
the directory and run the following, "dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -us -uc"
and off it goes! On my 1.42GHz IBook G4 it runs fine, but does take
forever. I am think lower CPU it would be time consuming, but can be done.

But, sure, 450 MHz is "OK" for many local tasks, it just gets totally

We all got bills, just run the build command leave the computer, do what
you gotta do, come back and you should be done :)
