I was looking at this further, and found out that /usr/share/applications/defaults.list was officially deprecated in 4/14. See, for instance, https://mail.gnome.org/archives/distributor-list/2015-January/msg0.html and also the current spec at http://standards.freedesktop.org/mime-apps-spe

Hi Andre, I should read Walter Lapchynski’s emails more closely. He had recommended installing FCITX instead of using IBUS. I just installed it through the terminal and the Canadian Multilingual Keyboard is available and works well. Do you think I should uninstall IBUS and UIM as input methods?

But you guys change the keyboard physically? This is what I'm asking... I have a US type keyboard, but I set my laptop to Portuguese language. I have no problems to use characters like ç, and also I write on english with no problems. You will need to use the script if you guys change the keyboard.

lxkeymap will not work good with lxpanel language switcher... I guess on the case you don't need to switch keyboard types, the best option is to put that first command I gave on /etc/xdg/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart OR set this on ~/.config/lxsession/Lubuntu/desktop.conf @all Any ideas? 2015-01-

Do you need to switch between keyboard layouts? If not, lxkeymap might solve your problem... Install it with: *sudo apt-get install lxkeymap* Open it, then select the layout (multi) in Canada section... Then hit Apply. 2015-01-20 7:24 GMT-02:00 Andre Rodovalho : > Ok, this command might work

Ok, this command might work for you: *setxkbmap -layout "ca" -variant "multix" -option ""* Use lxterminal to run, then check if this is the layout you want. We might need to put this in a Lubuntu (LXDE) specific configuration file... I will search for that while you test this out... 2015-01-20
