That makes sense compared to the behavior in Lubuntu Oneiric. I'm just wracking
my brain to try and discover any flaws whatsoever that we might need to work on
before final iso-testing.

That sounds somewhat like what Ubuntu does by default. In Ubuntu I always
change the behavior so I'm aware of security updates almost immediately when
they hit the US mirror.
During development it's often hard to figure out what the intended behavior is
because we mostly update manually at leas
I don't know if the update-notifier is enabled by default (it's a small
script or something that checks once a day/week for new updates), but
otherwise a quick boot up of update-manager and letting it check manually
would suffice.
