This is pretty awesome news for lubuntu!
@ Ali and others who I asked to hold back on our shouting out that lubuntu
should wait for 13.10, I apologise! Sadly it is planned from March, I do
think we should get in touch with them and ask that it coincide with our
1st LTS which is April.
@ Jono, can

Phill,
With all due respect to your personal opinion, I do disagree with you :)

I have created this project months ago. I was NOT planning to hold anything
back. As a respect to the decision to wait, that was because this
Yes,
I have a Q by all means promote lubuntu as an XP replacement... but the
release of such a replacement will be the 14.04 LTS. As desktop releases
only have 9 months support, are you seriously going to argue that 13.10 is
a replacement and in 9 months time all support will be dropped? If th
I see their adoption as a great step forward in Lubuntu. The only issue
with them adopting the current version could be bad publicity of their
launch doesn't go well, especially if support is dropped after 9 months.
The advantage to waiting for a LTS, would be stability, and less of a risk
of leav
Phill,
Problem is, we are talking apples and oranges here.
I have never stated that Lubuntu 13.10 will be 'the replacement' for
Windows XP :)
I have stated, I'm stating, and will state that Lubuntu, is the best
replacement for Windows XP.
Please, if that is not clear, by all means, I'm more than
I still think it's worth getting an early release of 14.04 or a late
release of saucy, but anything will work.
We could always aim for an early (~beta1/14.02) release of 14.04 that will
auto-update to 14.04.

Ali,
they plan to release the CD's in March, doing so means they will be using
13.10. In April (one month later) 14.04 LTS is released and any users of
13.10 will be prompted to upgrade. Those who choose not to will have
support dropped in July. As I have stated a couple of times, it seems

+1
Although the LTS was meant to last, at least Linux is out in the open for
distribution.

Hello Ben,
Let me put it this way.
For how many years now, a Windows XP Users has been using XP?
Do they really update it?
Do you know how many users of XP are using a Pirate Version on the whole
world? count me as former one ;)
When suddenly, they will see the light. When suddenly, they will sta
Hi again,
I have not read that on the news/post/link. I did not understand your first
email, hence my emails. I'm sorry but all in all, this discussion was
helpful so at least, everyone know what we are up to :)
Enough to remain silent about Start Ubuntu Project as a project that must
be a Priori

Yes, this is great, but the right timing is to wait until the Lubuntu
LTS, unless there should be a special agreement including support with
Munich. Then it would be a giant prototype or testcase and learning
before the real launching at the release of the LTS.

I agree, Jackson,
If 'the customer' wants it in March, we can do the best of that
situation. And your idea of a special edition sounds good to me.
It certainly means some extra testing, but it is a great opportunity.

Potentially since 2002 (technically, since 31 Dec 2001). So up to 10.5
years.
