Thanks for all who tried to assist me. This works well now. The problem was
with wrong pinout circuit in the book that i have ( pin 1 in wrong side ).

on SGI IA32 computers only, but they also give support

i fiddled with the grub on my new mandrake and it went kaput ...(didn't load
