Bottom line: Even though the HP web page doesn't mention it, the HP
9210i is MMC3 compatible and it works on Linux. (SUSE 6.1/2.2.7). Worked
like a charm, no special setting needed.

1. I have 2 hard disks at a machine next to me - both of the disks are
bought from Excellnet, and they are Western Digital - so far (for the
last 5 months which the machine is up all the time and heavily used) -

system was RedHat 6.0 on a Pentium 120.
On my old system, I had to compile the kernel to add ide-scsi support
and use the hdc=ide-scsi option at boot-up. And my CD-RW worked fine.
On my new system, the CD-RW works fine under LOSE9
