I am writing a single staff with two voices, using \voiceOne and \voiceTwo. Is
it possible to have rests common to both voices to be combined into "single
voice rests"?
Of course I could do like

Is it possible to specify a "non-standard" key signature, e. g. a
combination of sharps and flats? It is needed to notate certain kinds
of non-western modes (an example can bee seen at
http://dev.urbanninja.se/~erik/Vranjanka.pdf).

I upgraded to Lilypond 2.2.6 today (from 2.1), and discovered that the
pdf output renders incorrectly with gpdf (but still looks fine in
xpdf). Many noteheads, and other symbols as well, show up "halved", as
if there were white objects in front of them.
The .ps file looks good in gv and ggv.

I often use lilypond (2.4.2) to produce chord sheets (i. e. no actual
staff, only chords, barlines and repeats), as described in the manual
(see below). However, I have not managed to add time signatures to the
notation.

You have a typo there: your example says "bottommaragin" instead of

However I didn’t get it to work: now the fonts are not embedded at all and GS
does not load them:

Since Lilypond is text based, you can obviously write Lilypond source files
with Python and run them with Lilypond.
In fact, several such projects already exists, for a (very) simple example, see

AFAIK, OSC is only a communication protocol – what is sent over the protocol is
up to the application. So it is not a replacement for MIDI, rather a complement.

For a dotted note, it’s possible to override the number of dots actually drawn.
But when there are no dots to begin with? I would like to add a dot, but
\override Dots.dot-count = #1 has no effect.
