Thanks for the response, but as you say, the overall shape of the tie gets lost
with the loop.
Would this be horrendous to implement as a new feature, and if it is feasible,
how would I go about sponsoring?
David.

If each score is very short, you could try forbidding page breaks within each
score:
\new Score \with {
\override NonMusicalPaperColumn #'page-break-permission = ##f
} {
etc.
May depend on the version you are using.
David.

I would probably try using \tag round the \bar commands and \removeWithTag for
the volta-repeated section.

Ralph,
I do a lot of similar layouts. Try including
title = ##f
subtitl
Nice. I look forward to trying this in the future.

I've seen a snippet in the lsr for typesetting a coda with a similar type of
cautionary with ! or ? but am puzzled by
the behaviour.
Pdf output is attached.
\version "2.12.2"
\score {
\new Staff \relative c'' {
\time 4/4
\key a \major
r2. c4~ | c4 r2 c4 ( | cis ) r2. |

\layout { }

Subject: Slur/Tie Ambiguity
Good evening List,
The snippet below shows two c naturals tied across a barline, followed by a c
natural slurred to a c sharp
case it's a bug.
As a matter of fact, it's someone else's engraving that I'm trying to work out
how to play so I tried LP to see how it would engrave the slur.

An extra staff appears' where two examples are given that show a repeat block
with no start pitch.
Not a great problem, but thought I'd mention it in case it hadn't been noticed
before.
