Not the solution you're asking for, but some PDF readers have an "inverted
colors" mode. That's what I would use.

notes the
subdivision and is placed on the stem. Maybe it could be something like
"c'2:x" ?
The ":" way is persistent as long as the ":" is appended to the
note - I find it is suitable.

Please, notice that in violin playing one needs often to note 3 pitches:
1. for the basis note (first finger) :
this note is written with normal shape
2. for the "touch" note (?) = often the 4th finger, but not necessarily :
one can get harmonics with "major third" placing ;

Actually, I believe you can do something like
\includepdf[trim=0 20mm 0 0, clip, ...]{...}
to cut off 20mm from the bottom.
Depending on where you place your page numbers in the scores, this can
enable you to cut them off when including the pages in your book.
