Use:
\property Staff.whichBar = "|."
instead of \bar "|."
\bar is a shorthand for the score bar engraver, which you've removed.

Hello to everybody! It is some time I do not write to this list
(going to holydays...).
I read Karl Berry's e-mail about printing music pages with Lilypond. At
you can download my "Score Maker" program for printing music pages (i.e.
pages with empty staves on it). It works under Windows 95/98/

This worked perfectly! Thank you both! When I get back from NY, I'll
post this piece's source and resulting .ps on my site, and if anyone
wants to make use of it or any part of it for documenting polyrhythmic
scores, you have my blessings!

The manual says (under "Bar Lines"):
The command \bar bartype is a short cut for doing
\property Score.whichBar = bartype
The property is used by the timing engraver which you have moved to
staff level, and hence you need to

What does that mean? The information in the tab is
string and fret. That is not all of fingering, or
even most of it.
If the fingering is obvious it is not put in at all,
just like in

I mean the formatting. The business of putting fingerings left, right,
up and down of the notes should really be done by Lilypond-

Uhhhn.
I was doing fairly well, between your response and Laura's and Rune's of
starting to understand this all. Now I've gone braindead again. Perhaps
it's driving 9 hours that did it, but this change leaves me with a bunch
of questions I'd like to get cleared up before I post the source for
