If you drag the Music View window over the main window's right edge,

Maybe you just need to enable "Music View" in the "Tools" menu.

Updating proceeded normally and double-clicking a .ly file in the Finder
launches Frescobaldi and loads the file, so that bug seems squashed.

Davide,
I first verified that Frescobaldi (-devel) would load if a foo.ly file was
clicked and foo.ly files were set to be opened by it. Frescobaldi loaded but
did not load foo.ly.
Following re-installation of Frescobaldi (-devel) as you suggested, clicking on
foo.ly not only runs Frescobaldi

Well, now, this is a mystery. The lilytst.ly test file had a related PDF
output from LilyPond in the same directory. With it present, when I drag/drop
the .ly file to FB, FB started OK, but when I command a LilyPond compile,
nothing would appear in the Music View. Suspicious, I removed the PD

On my machine these are set as „move one workspace to left/right“.

The patch is now in MacPorts.
Enter in the Terminal
sudo port selfupdate
sudo port upgrade outdated
and you'll get a working Poppler installation and a working Music View
