Yes, I believe this is still necessary - it was in LP 2.8.
It isn't necessary in LP 2.10 and as far as I can remember it was not
necessary in 2.8 either.

Hi Francois,If you are patient, I am looking into developping a utility that will process midi files so that they convert more cleanly. I think there is a sort of consistency in the file structure that lilypond is looking for in the midi file format, and once it is clear, it should be much simpler
