I've installed LilyPond 1.6.0 on OpenBSD 3.1.
I've written a basic test file.
If I run lilypond test.ly, I get:
error: can't find `feta20.afm'
Fonts have not been installed properly. Aborting
If I run ly2dvi test.ly, it works fine.
