I'm not disagreeing with your logic on jazz chord notation. I'm sure that
traditionally it would
be the right system, and perhaps we could highlight the "proper" chords in the
documentation. I'm
merely saying Lilypond should accomodate those who want strange chord symbols and
other weird
things
The current set in Lilypond isn't bad by any means,
and yes there were some redundant chords in my list. I
was just trying to point out that there are different
"styles" of notating chords and Lilypond should try to
be inclusive. For example, Csus2/add3 and
Csus2/sus4/add3 are unwieldy, preferred i
I have always wondered why we must "build" the chord
manually. Who uses block chords these days? Wouldn't
it be simpler to say C:2 should look like Cadd2,
specify the markup for the chord expression, treating
chords merely like lyrics and markup, instead of tying
them to notes? Or am I missing some
I only meant the list as a starting point.
I disagree that you shouldn't use "redundant"
notation. Cadd9 is different from Cadd2 or Csus2. As
is C9sus4 and C11. A higher chord extension suggests a
different way of voicing the chord. The 2 in there
suggests that you want the 2 and 3 or 2 and 1
prod
What I simply meant to suggest with the list was that
we should be allowed to specify jazz notation in a
more flexible manner, rather than be tied to
Lilypond's default set. I know there is a way to
modify the settings but I haven't figured it out yet.

Do you Yah
Currently C:2 gives Csus2. I would like Cadd2 in
addition. The manual is not very helpful on how to
customize chord names. Can someone help me with this?
