Finally noticed the README file. Wish it had been in the zip!

I just want to add a footnote for Matt and Jan who helped me in building Lilypond
that the linking problems with libstdc++ which I experienced I believe were due
to a buggy build of gcc. I rebuilt gcc 2.95.3 using gcc 3.0.1 to build it and
afterwards
the linking problems were gone.

Is there any trick to installing those extra Type1 fonts out of the
"All Fonts" zip other than unzipping them in /usr/local/share/lilypond/tex?

It works! Thanx for all the help. I am hoping very much to avoid
having to turn to Windows-based closed software for arrangement.
Now where did we leave the GUI project associated with Lilypond?
Perhaps I can make some code contribution to that. How about a
front end in Java?

Never mind previous config struggle. I built bash 2.05a but had not reloaded
my shell. Under bash 2.05a, unlike under bash 2.05, lilypond configures.

Ah, I see. I have to link kpathsea/ into /usr/include.
Done, now configure runs even better.
Building on my slow Sparc machine, thanx for the help, have a nice weekend.

this looks like some kind of sh/bash incompatibility can you run it
under bash?
I'm launching configure from bash 2.05a

Hmm ... using gcc 2.95.3. Guess I'd better start browsing the
