You will find many of the plugins useful:
I'm using:
BufferTabs
Navigator
Project Viewer
XInsert (and Clipper)
Note that you'll automatically get some plugins with LilyPondTool
(SideKick, Console - these should be docked)

You need Java 5.0 (aka 1.5) for this version (and now on). I know this
is sad for Mac users, but I would not have had enough motivation to
work on LilyPondTool if I must stay with 1.4

For quota reasons I had to delete lilypond packages from my personal
homepage. But they are now available at cygwin mirrors.
Make sure that you have only one mirror selected.
AFAIK Cygwin has a setup log in which it looks at what packages to

I founded some important but not very well documented feature. It is
important when you use G_8 clef with lyrics, because using the same
minimumVerticalExtent, the lyrics won't be in the same distance from the

I have a practical question about transposing instruments, perhaps you have
some experience.
For example we make a c major score for Flute, Piano and Clarinet in Bb.
What notation should be used for "c d e f" in the Clarinet part?
I think it is natural to use \property Staff.transposing = #-2

I've built a 2.1.6 package. Now it seems to be full and OK.
Some future development versions will also be available at my homepage. Use
it as a mirror site in cygwin setup:

I had a solution for Central-European special characters, but perhaps there
are better solutions:
Install the 'ae' package for latex.
Open fonts.scm (can be found somewhere in lilypond tree), and change all cm to
ae, for example cmss10 -> aess10.
usepackage{ae} in your latex source.

Lily 1.8.1: Compiling the examples from the manual at maj7 chords I get no
triangles but 'M' characters (in typewriter font).
I don't understand why, because I made everything default. I think it is
some kind of font substitution problem, but other symbols (Bb, dim, #5) work
well.

When I compile the stanza numbers example from the manual:
