The whole thing comes from the fact that I don't like the way LilyPond
terminates hairpins.
For example here:
c'2 \< d'4 \! r4
hairpin is terminated on the right side of the note, which is not what I
want. That is why I create my own dynamic script:
hairpinStop = #(make-dynamic-s

If you change \maggiore to \major it will work. The "italiano" settings goes
about notes names, but commands like \major, \minor etc. remain the same.

No, in fact I spoke too soon. Running convert-ly from 2.16.1 to 2.18.2
