Dear Trevor:
Thank you for your help! I now understand the real problems.
I'm using Kaspersky Lab, a bad anti-virus software, which takes lots of

I can totally live without the gui. If the only thing is I have to
run the command line PPC version, I can live with the long load time.
Thanks for letting me know.

Yes, I did read that,
download the ppc version, it works fine - just use a different editor
- vim, emacs, textmate, lilypond-tool (jEdit) are all good- it's only
the lilypond text editor which doesn't work, and to be honest you
won't miss it.

Check for yourself:

Has Lilypond been fixed to work properly on OSX Leopard yet? I see
all kinds of archived messages about problems with it and I have just
downloaded the latest 2.11.x version and indeed it does not seem to
work on first try. here is what happens now:

How do I remove extra space in the beginning of Lilypond output (PDF)? An
example is at http://ksd5.bot.nu/media/FHS%20Alma%20Mater.pdf.
I want to remove all the white space between the heading and the beginning
of the music.

Hi Carl and list,
I just realized that for some (to me) strange reason, with your
solution (using \override StaffGroup.SpanBar #'stencil = ##f instead
of \remove "Span_bar_engraver"), the grand piano staff doesn't have
anymore the barline across its two staves.
Do you have any idea about this behav
Hi, now I got the "rest" issue :-)
Maybe it was related with the \new Staff correction that I mentioned
in the previous email.

Carl,
Thanks for your help.
I've narrowed down the problem a bit.
Begin code

\figuremode {
\override Staff.BassFigureAlignmentPositioning #'direction = #DOWN
\set Staff.useBassFigureExtenders = ##t

Hi Haipeng
I tried your score on my laptop, running MS Vista, with 2.11.49. The
working set was around 127 Mb, and there was no paging. The original score
caused Ghostscript to fail due to missing fonts, so I commented out the
lines which had font-name overrides. It then compiled successful

How can I create png output of a small snippet that is cropped to the
size of the snippet, a la the lilypond documentation? I want to create
images to put into a Word document. (It already exists, and I don't
see the need to redo it all in LaTeX, especially as I don't really
know LaTeX)

I would attempt to isolate and fix these problems before playing
with virtual memory.
I must admit that the error message looks like a problem with
memory allocation, but I think the solution to this lies in either
your tweaks, or in a bug with 2.11.49. Unfortunately, trac
