By the way, in your example file, the line
\input "a4.ly"
could just as well be removed. The default paper size
is already A4 and if you really want to change the
paper size, you have to use the method described at
http://lilypond.org/stable/Documentation/user/out-www/lilypond/Paper-size.html#P

I have a couple of questions that I didn't see treated in the
documentation:
* I have entered about one page of piano music
(http://home.wanadoo.nl/atte/intermezzo1.ly), but lily squeezes it
together on two systems, how do I control the general "spacey-ness" of the
music?

I asked a question some time ago about bracketing some notes but never got
a suggestion. I'm not talking about the same kind of brackteing as the
recent bracket thread. What I would like to do is something like this:

The problem is that the c in this case is not interpreted
as a string but ra
Hello,
I have these 3 questions...
1) what's the best way to use string substitution, I mean something like:
tune = "c"
soprano = \notes \transpose $tune {...}
alto = \notes \transpose $tune {...}
2) What's the best way to transpose a whole score? Should I put a
\transpose on every expression
Moving from 1.2.17 to 1.4.12 some of my favourite commands
do not work as expected
The command I had standardized for boxed rehearsal marks, i.e.
\mark "{\\font\\twelverm=cmbx12\\twelverm{\\hspace{10mm}\\raisebox{0mm}{\\fbox{1"
makes some additional white space to be inserted before and aft
