I now have lilypond 2.3.5 running on a Fedora 2 box (built just for lilypond). I found some mistakes in fret-diagrams.scm when run on lilypond 2.3. Please use this patch, instead of the one earlier in the thread. It should be applied to scm/fret-diagrams.scm. The earlier changelog still applies
