Just so happens that I'm working on a sparc install as well :) It's an
UltraSparcIIi in a Sun Netra T1 105. So far Gentoo has been working well
for me

I have a Sun Ultra 5 fresh out of it's packaging, with 256MB RAM, 400Mhz

I'd like to install LFS on it, in addition to Solaris and a Linux Distro.
For the LFS build - is there a recommendation about building LFS from Linux
or Solaris?
