This sounds like the Serial Connection/Settings got hosed. You should try
changing to a new Serial Cable first, then go in and reset your serial
(RS232) settings on the 816 & the printer. (my standard config on both
printer & pbx is 8,1,N - 9600)

I had that values checked also.. They are 9600, N, 8, 1
The printer is Panasonic also the KX-P1150 dot matrix..
