I have watched expert drywallers. They take that dry powder and rapidly
whip to to the optimum consistency and swipe it onto the wall beautifully.
I can not do that.
For me, the best way is to go down to Home Depot and buy a box of pre-mixed
"Topping Mix" ( the most easily sanded of the mixes),

Larry,
I agree with you...use only premixed sheetrock mud. I simply took a hand
full and smeared it where I wanted it on the cowl.
Very easy to apply this way and it rinses right off your hands with water.
Plus it is fun.
