To increase the amount of hot surface area in the heat muff, I used an ordinary
screen door spring. It was about 18 inches long when I bought it. I put one
end in the vise and stretched it out to about 12 feet. I then spiraled it
around a piece of one inch o.d. pipe. I heated it with my prop

I think this is what I am going to do. Maybe I will put some RTV in the
seam as I rivet it together.

The oil filter won't give you nearly as much heat as the exhaust system.
The exhaust system will burn you in about 15 seconds after startup. The oil
cooler never will. And during the winter, when you need
Sorry, obviously I meant oil "cooler"...

Does anyone know if there are any heat muffs available for a reasonable
price? What about a Heat box? If so, where can they be purchased from?

Dan, AS&S has several designs available. Most of them
are meant to be used with the Longeze and Varieze
airplanes, but would work very well on just about
anything. Look in the catalog and you'll find them
there. Hope this helps, Rick Wilson. rwdw2002yahoo.com

Thanks, but that is why I said "reasonable price". I think they are very
expensive for something that is easy to make, given the materials and skills
to weld aluminum. They can be produced in bulk and many can be sold. I
guess it is just the old TORT thin
Heat muffs are expensive and not worth what they cost. I saw an independent
dealer at Oshkosh last summer selling them for $75 and up. Outrageous in my
opinion. Heat muffs can be bent on a small bench top brake and pop riveted
together if you are not a welder.

Dan, Just thought I would mention them at AS&S. I
figured you were already familiar with them but didn't
know for sure. I hope you find some reasonable. Rick
