Hi all, in an earlier response to a question about the avionics master
switch I threw in the line:
"For added protection always add 'free wheeling diodes' to any large relay"
Questions came back on what diode to use and how to use them.
Well pretty much any diode will do.
A 1N5408 will cost 25c

Mr. Nuckols (sp?) of aerolectric fame, does not recommend an avionics switch,
as it another point failure. Last week my RV-8 avionics master switch
malfunctioned, and I had no radios... just a thought. I have friends who have
built many airplanes and swear by them, but right now I'm swearing
"having a separate avionics master switch?"
Hi Stephen, the main reason for having an Avionics master switch is, in the
case where you have something resembling a full IFR stack with multiple nav
and comm units, to be able to leave them all OFF at the one time while you
fire up the rest of the gea
