The KR-2 which I am resurrecting has what looks like an original VW breather cap with a safety wire internally to keep it on. [mushroom looking cap] Is this acceptable or should I replace it with something else? This is also where oil will be added. Mike McGowan N4288C

Yes, it is acceptable. However, any oil that comes out of it, will, of course, end up all over your engine. Steve Bennett sells a unit to replace that, which will allow you to route the air/oil to an air/oil separator that you can put on your firewall. This unit also allows for adding your oil.

I made a oil separator for my Hatz Bi-plane. Almost as described below but fitted a small electric pump to pump the oil back to the sump. Due to the sump pressure and Newtons law that flow takes the path of least resistance the oil will not run back to the sump on its own. The separator works
