I have a VW 2180 and Diehl Wing Skins ( float on landing ), with a 52X50
Sterba Prop. What is the maximum acceptable idle RPM for this
configuration. I have no drag devices.

I know that mine is not the same as yours but I had turned idle
up a couple weeks ago to about 800 maybe 825 and it was to much for my
plane with flaps. I have it turned back to 750 rpm now and would like to
get it slightly less. My guess for you would be 750 max considering the

That's the good thing with my RG2000 gear reduction .My reduction is 1.6:1
so prop spins slower than the engine.
engine 4000 rpm Prop = 2500rpm
engine 650 rpm Prop = 406.25rpm
