I am no expert, but I am at about the same place that you are. I also sanded
through the outer primer to the smooth prime in a couple of places. My
thought is that it is primer, so it is OK..
My plan is to paint the wings and ailerons separately to keep the paint out
of the hinge.

Sorry, that may not be true. I think that it depends on the type of paint
used. I, don't know, but I would ask a paint supply if the paint system
intended to be used is compatible with the two different primers.. An
experienced painter would probably know also. I p
