My main header tank vent tube returns back to the aux tank, so if I overflow
my header, the fuel runs back over to the aux tank and doesn't leave the
plane at all. The aux tank IS vented to atmosphere through a faired
vent/drain under the wing, and the way you can tell the tank is definitely

Thanks for the reply's on the cap types. I like the one Joe sent I will look
into that one.
HOW TO VENT the header tank? My thinking
Float micro switch, it's what I have to control keeping the header tank at a
given level in my BD4.

You can put one in each wing tank to know when they are empty as well, use a
fuel flow tranducer to know exactly how much fuel you used.

HOW TO VENT the header tank? My thinking (although might be stupid) is that
if I vent the header tank out the top then if while I am transferring fuel from
the wing tanks and get distracted and forge
l the tanks to
the top. I guess they are long so as to be able to install in a lot of
senaerios.

The older Wicks catalogs show the fuel cap and filler neck numberd FC100-001,
priced at $5 for the filler neck and cap. I used this cap in my KR as did many
others. Apparently Wicks no longer carries it, but I expect a call to Wicks to
ask about the source for this fuel cap might get it back i

He He I would have to agree, sorry I didn't say, I ment to say to vent the
header tank but not at the cap, you can vent it away from the tank to avoid
the issues Steve brought up. Just be careful that you design it in such a
way that it doesn't get sipioned out.

Steve, I looked for the knurled filler neck and plastic cap that I bought from
either AC Spruce or Wicks 15 years ago when I was building my KR. They don't
seem to exist any more. I'll try to remember to dig through some old catalogs
to see if the part number from them is still any good. I wou
I suffer the same frugal tendencies. I did just have to bite the bullet and
buy two assemblies from Wicks. VERY over priced!!

You might not want fuel fillers in the wing tanks since the header tank is
higher. Nor do you want vents there.
You can put bigger lines to the tanks from the header tank (1/2 or larger
tube (smaller tube for fuel pickup)) and the fuel will drain to the wing
tanks.
Put vent lines form the wing ta
Does anyone have a preference (Hopefully affordable) for fuel filler assembles
and caps? Need two for the wing tanks and one for the header. Thinking about
using one with a fuel vent included for the header tank only. (building in
vents for the wing tanks) Your opinions appreciated.
