I have determined today, with a dial indicator, that the cam gear is cocked on the on the cam shaft. I mounted the dial indicator where it would measure the run out of the face of the cam gear. This was done by placing the indicator tip on the forward lip just under the teeth on the gear. From t

Something had to be out of round, though there would be some indication of that through bad harmonics I would think. Is it possible the bearings had moved or slipped? It could have been further into the engine allowing the crank or cam to be distorted? Just a thought Mark. Fred Johnson Reno, NV

I just returned from the airport after a close inspection of the engine with two A&P's who hangar close by me. I removed the top cover to inspect the inside of the case and removed the spark plugs so we could freely turn the crank and cam. Absolutely nothing we could see would indicated a sudden
