Mark I have a friend who is in the market and I suggested he look into a KR-2.
He is looking for a flying plane. Could you pass on the particulars for both
of those planes?
Thanks

The geared start that Great Plains Aircraft sells will work. Because its geared
it has an increase in torque. I have it on my GPAS VW 2180 and I am using a
small battery.
Russ, the part number you listed in your original email seems to come up as a
fuel pressure regulator or a direct drive st
Hi Russ,
Have you tried connecting a heavy duty car battery? does that turn the motor?
A over powerful starter will not work with a small aero battery, the internal
resistance of a small battery will limit the current flow through the starter.
Just something to think about.

Russell,
Great Plains aircraft sells a light weight geared starter that should work for
you. It is part ltgearedstrt and you can find it on their link at
http://www.greatplainsas.com/scdiehl.html
you can also call Steve or Linda Bennett at Great Plains and I am sure they
will get you set up.
I have a geared starter that came with the engine from GPASC. I will try to
remember to get the make and model when at the hangar this afternoon. It turns
my 2276 with 8.5 to 1 compression and total seal rings with no strain.
However, it also could be your battery, battery location, or battery
The newer cases (from gpasc) use a Subaru starter from a late 80s legacy or

It won't fit older Diehl cases without an adapter, which gpasc also
sells... The older cases take a rotax starter (snowmobile/jetski type)

I have a 1834 VW in my KR2 and am using the Diehl case with the prestolite
starter
MDO 4207M and it does not have enough torque to pull it through the compression
stroke. Does anyone know what starters are being used on the larger VW engines?
I sure do hate to hand prop to get the engine started
What were all of the specs?

I have been told that the Warp Drive 3 blade works. I have one and I am going
to attach it to my 0-200. If you call Warp they can give you more specifics
and I am sure they also have a 2 blade that will work.

I was using a 58x72x3-1/2" from Ed Sterba and pulling 150mph (GPS) @2400rpm.
I don't know if there is a better one or not.

I'm sure you'll get some feedback, but there's always the KR Performance
spreadsheet at http://www.krnet.org/kr-info.html, which I'm pretty sure
lists a few O-200 engin
