Most crashes of the KR off field have been due to no fuel. The last
crash that I can remember of a KR with fuel on board, if it had a
header tank, would have been under the right wing.

Okay one last quick thought.
I promise.
I once saw a gentleman who works in the field of Automobile safety talking
about the fact that Autos have improved tremendously over the last few
decades, as far as safety design goes. We now have seat belts, airbags,

While I only have a 10th of the time in my KR2S as Joe has in his, I agree
with his opinions. The majority of my time in the airplane so far has been
in 3 hour legs flying from coast to coast, and I can say without
hesitation that I never adjusted the trim once during the entire trip. It is
This deal may not last more than a day or so, but refurbished iFly700's

Those who have had a chance to use a variety of portable navigators are
impressed with these units and reports of direct sunlight readability are

I can tell you from the side of being someone who does NDT work for a living
that powder coating does not stop cracks from showing. Powder coat will cover
bad welds as does paint. Also just like paint it does not cover over sharp
edges well.

My first airplane was an Acro Sport II and I had two separate tech
counselors tell me the same thing Tony. Powder coating was not a very good
idea. so I opted for traditional primer and then paint on the steel
structure. Even on a flat part without welds, they didn't recommend it
because if the par
I've been told (by someone who seems to know what he's talking about but may
not be an authority) that powder coating is not a good idea for structural
parts because cracks, particularly around welds, may be hidden by the powder
coating. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Like Rick Human, I too have had my straight KR-2 insured by Falcon Insurance

there has never been a question about it.
I might say this about your experience with Falcon and say that maybe you
should
be cautious about the information you spread. You may have gotten some

I kept my header tank and one magneto in case I ever have to shut the electric
system off.

Ray, Don't sweat it. I have the 12 gal header tank from Rand sitting in my lap.
I accept the risk. And to follow on the accident comments if it is sever enough
to rupture the header tank I most likely did not survive, If it was sever
enough to rupture a header tank then it was bad enough to rupt
Well - that's interesting as I have a straight KR-2 and just renewed with
Falcon and have been with them for @ 4 years - there was never been a
question or problem. I'm only carrying liability - don't know it that makes
a difference.

My quest for insurance has left an interesting tip today:
Falcon insurance will not insure the kr-2, and will insure the kr-2S.
Just thought I'd like to share! So far, this is the only company that made
this distinction between the standard '2' and the '2S'.
