A couple of things I've learned along the way are that mild steel will last a pretty good while, but when you wrap it with fiberglass, its life will be shortened, and if it cracks you won't be able to see it until it has the potential to do great harm. Jim Hill had glass insulation on his VW he

You might want to consider mild steel pipes with Jet Hot coating on the inside and out. They will last forever and keep the heat in the pipes. See N64KR at http://KRBuilder.org - Then click on the pics See you at the 2009 - KR Gathering in Mt. Vernon, Ill There is a time for building and a time

I keep seeing interesting parallels to things I used to do with V-Twin Harleys on this site for the guys that are running air cooled motors. Mark L is running baffles that are nearly identical to the ones I have on my drag pipes on my '60 Sportster (888 cc's, 10.5 compression, 38mm Mikuni) to keep

You might want to consider a ceramic coating. Should provide the same insulation; same weight, less; I'm not sure, but it is used extensively in drag racing and other automotive and boating applications. Mark W N952MW (res) building -Original Message- From: krnet-boun...@mylist.net [mailt

Aircraft engines are not the same as high performance racing engines. At the RPM we are running friction in the pipes and tuned length exhausts are going to do very little if anything. In fact we probably want a bit of back pressure in the exhaust to aid with fuel economy. As for wrapping the exha

The design was for 38" pipes. I accomplished that on the two front cylinders. I don't have the bending equipment available to do a really bang up job on headers, so the two aft cylinders ended up closer to 35" in length. -Jeff On Wed, 21 Jan 2009 17:00:29 -0600 Larry&Sallie Flesner writes: >
