That is because your concept of identity is wrong. As far as I know,
the identity is suppose to represent exactly what the word means,
which is, "condition or character as to who a person or what
a thing is" (dictionary.com). While you can state that sure, you and

Okay, lets put it this way. You are completely wrong about vertical
space being "more important" than horizontal space. Consider for a
moment the implications of using up the vertical space. It means the
view to your buddy list becomes all the slight smaller. Now the
consequence of that is you see

You don't need to use the Lancelot menu. You just need to add the menu and

I also don't like the proposed gui changes.
- Vertical space is no problem for me, and can be saved by hiding the menu
(ctrl+M) and
making contacts use only one row, see my contact-list:

You can -- kind of -- already get a similar result by dropping Lancelot's
contacts component into a vertical Plasma panel.

I like the idea of making the user interface simpler, however I don't
think this mockup brings Kopete to a more usable state:
- Identity is a very complex term that most people just don't get in

it works well but the user interface
is really bad from our pov.
We have several ideas to make it better
but we believe not everyone will like
it, we started a fork in gitorious named KIM
