A majority of participants on the ML found the new icons a step forward and we
have a commit.
We won’t ever reach a point where we can satisfy everybody, so we must live
with the democratic majority.
All concerns and inputs raised after the commit are sound, valid and wise and

Gentlemen,
from my point of view a save is a save, in whatever application I am in. In pcb
I save a pcb, and in eeschema I save a schema. There is no need for different
save icons in individual applications. It adds complexity and workload for
developers without any benefit for users.

Gaurav asked for examples using Qt: Eagle.
As they implemented their awkward UI across all OS, I see no problems
whatsoever for Kicad.
Having done multiplatform / multiarchitecture releases with Qt, I can confirm
it was totally stable and automatized.

After all of Olivers work and the amount of time discussed here, I strongly
vote for accepting the changes, as they are a huge improvement.
I agree on keeping the “old” pixelated a and PCB calculator, if that helps
accepting the remaining changes.
For sure this will not be the last discussion ab
The summary of this thread to me is:
1) Everybody is in favour of uniform, consistent measurement units, mm that is.
2) Everybody sees a long term benefit.
3) Everybody agrees V5 is disruptive due to library changes.
4) There seems to be consensus that only few users will be bitten by the 3D

Hello Oliver,
congrats on the huge improvement on the icons!
For further simplification I would remove the gray “paper-boundary” on
schematic and worksheet icons, citing Jeff Young: “… adding visual complexity
without any cognitive benefit”.
When Wayne refers to the doc team - I expect the icon

Excellent idea, in combination with Simon Küppers suggestion to highlight the move o
Translation of Clockwise and Counterclockwise are long texts in many languages:
Uhrzeigersinn and Gegenuhrzeigersinn in german for example.
If the icon depicts (dynamically) the sense of rotation, the text can be short as "Rotate" - which is short in many languages.
Just an idea?
Hello,
I had exact the same issue Andrey is reporting and support his view, the present behaviour is totally unexpected.

Hello Jost,
I too feel a clever configured 3D mouse would enhance productivity. My Spacepilot is awaiting your code!
Especially now that OSX nightlies are coming back - yikes!
Thanks to all!

Hello,
KiCad ships with 92 schematic ibraries, but kicad.pro contains only 29.
I suggest defaulting to have all libs in kicad.pro by replacing the 29 libs with my list.
I suggest applying this to devel and stable.
Best regards and happy easter eggs to all!
