I am not an Ubuntu guru. I would love to but do not know how. I am
willing to waste more time in an attempt to help find the bug in Ubuntu,

@Kai-Heng,
Thank you very much for your efforts here. I just wanted to provide a
quick update...
Short version - I have been able to repeat the positive result using the
updated kernel you provide on a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04.1 (the

More detail -
Since Ubuntu 20.04.
CubicSDR still triggers it for me even in 5.4.0-42.46, further a 5.8.0 mainline

Hi @kaihengfeng,
I am not familiar with kernel/git bisection and was unable to do what
you asked, partly because I couldn't boot into linux/ubuntu to begin
with, and updating the kernel from 19.10 wouldn't test all the other
services that could be at play.
However, after repeated efforts or resta
Looks like the same issue kcompactd and btrfs-transaction locking up.
Can not immediately reproduce, seemingly takes ~2weeks to appear. More
problematic systems generally also have higher disk i/o, all btrfs.

@Eric Joslyn: you can do the same with a stable kernel from the 4.10
series, no need to be on the bleeding edge with release candidates. (I
see it's been backported to 4.9 too)
The key patch you really want to get in is the one that correctly
identifies the hyper-threading capabilities of the Ryze
