I've tested the kernel from focal-proposed, with the systemd packages
from my personal PPA (as the systemd patches aren't yet available in
focal-proposed).

I'm having a very similar issue with the same hardware. Do you think it
might be the same problem? If it is, then it was not actually fixed in
jammy (I'm using a kernel that supposedly have it already fixed).

and it installed fine.
I tried to reinstall linux-tools-common and I get this:

Still here with latest 6.5.0.6 (kernel 6.5.3).
Tested with Nouveau, so no Nvidia 535 driver.
