OK Turns out my btrfs+floppy bug is indeed a kernel floppy matter, and
the btrfs scan just 'triggers' the fault.
The new kernel floppy maintainer says:-

Since this is the first time I've ever seen this (other Nvidia users
don't seem to encounter the same issue) I would suggest the simplest
