I confirm that the newly proposed kernel (4.15.0-45-generic) solves the
problem for me too (Dell latitude 5480+WD15 Dock). This closes the bug
1814117, marked as duplicate of this one.
That new kernel is now released in the standard ubuntu repository.

It turns out that the installation without nvidia drivers and the secureboot
option also causes errors. After some time using the laptop, the screen freezes
and only holding down the power button allows you to turn off. Unfortunately,
after switching on again, there was a problem with the grub w
I tried the glamor / tearfree - advice, but: with NO success; still flickering.
And, btw.: I don't think the flickering is an Xorg-issue;
it starts in "textmode" (!!) as soon as the radeon-kernel-driver loads. I think
the kernel-driver

I was able to install 18.04 without issue. It looks like the solution to
disable "Intel VMD Technology" in the BIOS solved the issue.

What status should this bug be moved to?
Obviously there is something fishy going on with Intel VMD being
enabled, but I'm not using it so it doesn't impact me in this case.
Should I get any logs to assist in figuring out why enabling VMD causes
the system not boot properly?
