I was having the same issue with my Lenovo ideapad 100 (also model 15IBD
80 QQ) running Ubuntu-mate 16.04 LTS. However, when trying to get an
image to display in Cheese, I found there was no display until I clicked
preferences and changed the photo and video resolution both to 320x240.

This bug goes away with Zesty Zappos kernel.
Zesty fixed Xenial's bios problem.
Problem solved I'll use Zesty waiting to see if an update to Zesty brings the
problem back.
