Still seeing this on a new install of Vivid (Gnome Edition) with kernel
3.19..0-25. I am also running on a MacBook Pro and using external
monitors via thunderbolt ports. A sleep/resume cycle after reboot
removes the symptom as well.

I posted these patches to the kernel team ML. I've tested the above
reproducer script and it does indeed fix the issue, and in addition I've
ran the unionmount-testsuite 'sudo ./run --ov' on the new kernel and no
regressions were noticed (all test passing).

On a Dell Inspiron 14 3000, the fan is always off. Even if I install
`i8kutils` and run `i8kfan 2 2` the fan turns on for about one second,
then turns off again.
