I'm experiencing the same issue described by users here -- the trackpad
is not recognized on my ASUS D550MA-DS01.
xinputs --list shows no trackpad, and running synclient returns
'Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?'. I
resort to using an external USB mouse, and run

I'm having the same problem with my Acer Travelmate 8215WLMI. Now, funny as it
seems, since Ubuntu 11 I have to use
"blacklist.firewirewire_ohci=yes" as a work-around, "blacklist=firewire_ohci"
just wouldn't work.
I'm actually using Ubuntu 12.04.5 Kernel 3.2.0-67.
Trying Ubuntu 14 using the work
Ok, on upgrading to 3.2.0-67, the terminal reports:

I believe this should be the problem.

I do encounter this bug as well on my Smart Ativ 700. To be more specific :
* With Ubuntu 14.04, you could not control the brightness with the keyboard,
but you could do it manually by adjusting the brightness setting in the control
panel

I can confirm the reboot issue is still not fixed in Ubuntu 14.04.
When rebooting the computer:
