I do encounter this bug as well on my Smart Ativ 700. To be more specific : * With Ubuntu 14.04, you could not control the brightness with the keyboard, but you could do it manually by adjusting the brightness setting in the control panel * With Ubuntu 14.10 daily, you can control the brightness, but you can not go brighter than what the light sensor finds the "most effictive". For example, if I'm in a dark room, I can only turn off the screen, but cannot make the screen brighter.
Tried with kernel 3..16 final from the PPA above, no improvement. ** Tags added: kernel-bug-exists-upstream ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1332520 Title: backlight bug Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: my keybord back-light dont work samsumg ativ book 6 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: linux-image-3.13.0-29-generic 3.13.0-29.53 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-29.53-generic 3.13.11.2 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-29-generic i686 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.2 Architecture: i386 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: jrcosta 2010 F.... pulseaudio jrcosta 3381 F.... pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Fri Jun 20 09:36:15 2014 EcryptfsInUse: Yes HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=93cc3332-e52d-4c4c-8732-d3415dea2ee9 InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-06-18 (2 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.10 "Saucy Salamander" - Release i386 (20131016.1) MachineType: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. 670Z5E ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb 1 radeondrmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.13.0-29-generic root=/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-3.13.0-29-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-3.13.0-29-generic N/A linux-firmware 1.127.2 SourcePackage: linux StagingDrivers: rts5139 UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to trusty on 2014-06-18 (1 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 04/21/2014 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: P05ADG.010.140421.SH dmi.board.asset.tag: No Asset Tag dmi.board.name: NP670Z5E-XD1BR dmi.board.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. dmi.board.version: SEC_SW_REVISION_1234567890ABCD dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 9 dmi.chassis.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. dmi.chassis.version: N/A dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvrP05ADG.010.140421.SH:bd04/21/2014:svnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:pn670Z5E:pvrP05ADG:rvnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:rnNP670Z5E-XD1BR:rvrSEC_SW_REVISION_1234567890ABCD:cvnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:ct9:cvrN/A: dmi.product.name: 670Z5E dmi.product.version: P05ADG dmi.sys.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD.
