The behavior described is normal. Preview mode have never been saved with
previous versions. At next DK session, you go back in thumbnails mode.

I had the same bug on Fedora 23. Dolphin 15.12.3 crashing when right-clicking
on files, never on folders or links. Disabling Send via KDE Connect service
solved the problem.
