The best way to verify if a serial to usb adapter is working that I have found
on the Mac is to go to the /dev folder in the terminal and see if a tty_USB0

I found out this applies outside of Dolphin. In Kate if you open a file and it
updates while the file is open, it prompts you to ask if you want to reload the
