I don't think the overlapping halos is a problem, I just wasn't sure
if you meant to account for them in the label overlapping algorithm.
Now that I've read your responses I don't think you tweaked the
original JUMP algorithm at all, so it makes sense that the halos are
ignored during label confli

I figured that might be the case. I wasn't sure what part of the label
style had been modified. My apologies for comments that didn't appl
Halos are a device to improve the readability of text. If they
overlap enough to obscure the text, then I need to fix it.

Larry,
One more little thing that I noticed. The conflict resolution doesn't
seem to apply to the halos, which can overlap, only to the actual
label text.
I'm not sure if this is what you intended.

Larry,
I was able to test out your new label style for a few minutes today on
my lunch break. Here is the promised feedback:
[1] I'm a little confused about how the "Scale labels with the zoom

Dear Stefan
I sort of take the view that plugins are a way of testing ideas before
they are committed to the core. This was partially behind my idea to
run the small survey -(which btw has only had 20 or so responses) that
might identify widely used/required functionality.
Personally I would
Hei Geoff,
at some point we definitevly need to port your adhancements to the core.
But up to now I was not sure if you want that (for maintenance reasons)

Hi Geoff,
I've played around with offset distance and HTML formatting on
labels too. Perhaps we'll get there. I am changing the code base a
little at a time to judge the response and keep backward compatibility
with project files.

Hi all,
Geoff's plugin works fine for labels. What we (Users) miss is a pointstyle:
the possibility to display different point symbols according to attribute
values.
Does somebody care about?

Dear Larry
I am pleased to see an interest in improving the label style. In my
vertexsymbol plugin I have created an additional label option that has a
range of formatting options, like centre, and 8 compass positions from
the vertex. It is also possible to set the offset distance (in my case

Always! In a way feedback is the currency in which open source
developers are paid. :-)

I'll download the nightly build tomorrow and give it a spin. Do you
want any feedback?

Larry,
This sounds interesting. I'm not doing any work on the label style,
but I look forward to trying out this new functionality and also to
getting a peek at your code.
