kpresenter is ok, but imho it is quite incomplete.
Also my experience with ppt files is that you shud use powerpoint to open them,
if they are anything but the most basic slides!

then I suggest you get your hands on the free
powerpoint viewer and run it in Linux using WINE
(http://www.winehq.com). WINE is an almost complete
implementation of Windows on top of Linux. One thing

My experience with the ppt -> html conversion is that it tends to work
properly only inside ie. Also you typically don't wan't to have a slide show
from inside a web browser.

I'm trying to compile satan on linux. however, when I
run the 'reconfig' script I get the message Can't find
perl5. Bailing out.
Although the readme says it look for perl in
/usr/bin/perl and i have installed perl still i am
unable to configure hoping i have to do some changes

Try using SAINT as I also had some problems in
configuring Satan.

Satan is too old a product, If you want you can download and try SAINT or
SARA both of which are based on SATAN.
