how can i compile programs statically without linking them with shared
libraries.like if i hav a C prog compiled for mysql ver X its binary wont work on
mysql ver Y.so can i compile it in such a way that program is independent of verison
of mysqlclient(shared lib).

>From what we have at my office, Sendmail as well as IMAP & POP3 servers
authenticate users via a LDAP server using PAM. We have not setup sendmail
or imap or pop servers with any ldap specific patches. I guess the same
should work for Qmail-CourierIMAP combination too.
