I made a beginner’s mistake. In the section “The instance should report its
check results to an existing Icinga 2 master” I set the instance name to
my2ndwindowsmachine and then I set host to icinga2machine. Changing the
instance name to icinga2machine fixed it.

Hi,
you configured 2 endpoints with the same name (my2ndwindowsmachine) in C:\ProgramData\icinga2\etc\icinga2/zones.conf
Just open that file and make sure that the endpoints are unique.
